To find out more about the history behind the game and the specifics about World of Warcraft: Reforged we spoke to the producer Pete Stilwell. In this discussion, Stilwell talks about topics like the reasons Blizzard decided to go with Warcaft III for a remaster in comparison to other games as well as why the staff at Blizzard respects the original design, while also rewriting the story as well as other aspects that the studio has created to make World of Warcraft: Reforged stand apart as more than just an old-fashioned nostalgia-snap.
Stilwell is also adamant that it's an "blessing as well as a curse" to enjoy such a committed and enthusiastic fanbase and the way Reforged intends to draw in World of Warcraft fans who are interested in learning more about the history in this World of Warcraft universe. "Most people don't know about the origin story," Stilwell said of the millions of World of Warcraft players.

From the beginning the question is why you chose World of Warcraft instead of some other properties you have for the remaster?
There were a few elements in this. We'd just completed the final chapter from cheap WoTLK Gold StarCraft: Remastered, so we had put together an RTS-oriented team. So this was a natural progression. It almost mirrored Blizzard's transformation of one game into another. It was clear that we were the best team to do the task.
Also, there's the necessity to, in the first place serve the biggest communities that existed in our earlier games. There are plenty of games in the larger catalog that we could have played that are simpler. If you're looking at it from a perspective of time it could be more sensible to begin with the very first World of Warcraft or something similar to that.
