This is why the developer appears to be taking the nucleus choice, and says "we're planning in OSRS Gold the long run to remove down the Duel Arena out of RuneScape completely." In the meantime it will introduce "some quick-term actions" to reduce PvP "until our development teams are able to release an update major enough to completely replaces the Duel Arena next year."
This will come with a limit on the amount of GP which is also known as gold points the players can stake on matches in the Duel Arena. Players will be able to bet "no greater than fifty million GP per duel". Further measures have not been elaborated on yet.
Jagex says that "a brand-new experience that will be part of the ongoing Elder God Wars storyline" will replace Duel Arena in the early 2022 timeframe No further details have been revealed as of yet.
Although the effect of these changes is yet to be assessed, they appear to be among the strongest measures any studio has made in order to protect against external misuse of its systems for real-world monetary gain. If they're successful, similar strategies might be found in the MMO market in the near future.
Jagex recently announced, after 18 years of being the battleground for PvP, Duel Arena will be moving out of RuneScape and a new zone will be added. RuneScape is set to introduce Het's Oasis that will have a brand new setting, new ways to earn skills and two mini-quests for players to try.
Beginning today, with the Oasis Restoration the players will be charged with the transformation of the Duel Arena following a cataclysmic earthquake that has destroyed the entire area OSRS Gold For Sale. Players will need to team up to transform the the arena from "a bloodthirsty fighting pit, where legends have staked their fortune in one-on one matches and a peaceful oasis."
